Deaner's last weekend! Woooooo!

I'm having surgery on Friday for a hernia. It means a week of being completely laid up on pain killers with 5 weeks recovery after that. The doctor said basically nothing fun for 6 weeks total. So I treated this weekend like that scene in FUBAR when they go camping and partying for Deaner's last weekend before his surgery. I think I made the most of these 2 glorious days. Friday we went out. Saturday was the N.O.I.S.E. ride - see its own post. And Sunday was shred-tastic.

Carboy at Tiger Bar. It's fun to heckle him.

Yeah, amy and I were shredding.

Vanessa and Jen.

Lovejoy showed up on fire. I have probably 20 pictures of him getting awesome from this night.

He was picking people up all over the place.

Dear skatepark designers, this is my favorite obstacle ever. So many possibilities and so easy to build. This thing is one of the few reasons I keep going out to Beaverton on the weekends.

I've got to thank Egbert for the tip on this one.

We were having one hell of a tailslide session. Then we decided to go to the Hillsboro park. That place just bummed us all out. So we headed back to Portland for burritos.

Caught this tender little moment on the ride back.

Jen will probably have some more photo documentation of our Sunday skate adventure here. Her blog reminded me that we've had the ramp for a year. Shit that means this blog is probably 1 year old now. I guess I have a big digital journal to look back on. Here's to you ramp....

Rabbit ears for your flat screen

Sunny Fall days are the best. There's something about the angle of the sun, the crisp air, and the changing colors that makes these days some of the best. That is, as long as the rain stays away. The impending winter is quite the motivator and while I was still fighting off the last bits of a cold we rallied and got 2 epic days of skating in.

Shane and Karie have an epic mantle with a nice flat screen TV that is hooked up to rabbit ears.

We spent a few hours at the Beaverton skatepark. Remember Rollerblades and Razor Scooters? Well, they are alive and well in Beaverton, OR. My favorite kid was on a cheap dual suspension mountain bike, rocking track pants and a shitty leather jacket, and a full face helmet. To top it all off he was talking to himself non-stop and at one point there were some dogs barking far off and he said, "shut those fucking dogs up!" Classic.
The old park is fun for metal edged curbs and manuals and the new section is pretty fun.
Egbert came through with a couple other spot suggestions. Good times.

Rolling rollers.

Juppy jumping the can.

Sunday ramp jam. Colin doing something or other.

A little late on Jeremy's rock and roll on the extension.

Micah smith grinding into the extension.

Sunset sesh at Burnside.

Airwalk dismount by Doug.

Doug out of the quarter and into the face wall.

Dan hooked me up with some wood for a project. This is his shop/home.

Ben just posted this on myspace about his trip to Seattle with Nich.

I will tackle you in the face

The rain is here. It is officially fall. I don't know what to do with my days when it's raining. I'm sure I did something last winter but I can't remember what it was. Boredom will break way and I'll figure it out. Until then here's to hoping there are more matinee punk shows.

Saturday morning scramble with 2 kinds of hot sauce. Yum.

Taking photos of a punk show while it's still light out is new for me. But the 5pm show was fun.

This is 2/3 of the Stolen Minks shooting self portraits while the Mean Jeans play. The Mean Jeans played a show with them in Vancouver recently and they came through on their epic continental tour to play Portland.

mmmmmidlife, mmmmmmmohawk.

Classy, all around.

The Stolen Minks.

Andrew rocking the eye of the eagle.

The Pity Fucks rounded up the lineup.

Bumper pool!

10 minutes to downtown is 10 minutes too far

It's nice to be skating a lot more now that my toe is feeling better. It's still not 100% though. At the same time skating is super frustrating at the moment because of so much time not on board. And landing kickflips still hurts like hell. I'm thinking this was the last week or so of real summer-like weather. Rainy days will be a lot more abundant soon. At least I was out soaking it up.

The ramp expansion is now complete just in time for the rains. We've now had the ramp for a year. Tons of fun.

Brian was 5-0ing almost the entire width of the ramp.

Lovejoy rocking a foil mold of Derek's face.

We hit this spot on Sunday. The ground is completely horrible but the steps are rad.

Tuesday was the Monotonix/Silver Jews show. Monotonix is my new favorite live band and I'm bummed that I missed them a few weeks ago when they played here. They setup in the middle of the floor of the venue, moved and played in every available part from the stage to the balcony and everything in between. Loud, awesome rock with crazy energy. Go see them if you can! I realize these photos aren't top notch. Low light and not being close is not a good combo.

Ending the set from the balcony. Dude jumped stagedive style from up there.

The Silver Jews were good too but kind of lackluster after the energy of Monotonix.

Funnel Cakes

Unintentionally, this is almost entirely a Nich Kunz post. We all rallied up at these funneled full pipes. They're down by the metal halfpipes that we've skated before. I got a couple good shots of Pat before he left town. Jonah shot his board over the barb wire fence and Nich was able to retrieve it but not without setting of the alarms in the yard. It took a long ass time before security showed up and gave us the boot.

Nich over the hole.

For some reason Nich is running one Indy stage 8 and one stage 9. The stage 8 is suffering from the bent axles that almost every pair had. But he just keeps skating them. I've offered him some new Thunders on numerous occasions.

Dudes met us on bicycle. I like Steve's little bike.

Then over to this barrier spot. Again, Nich shredding.

And Healy with a boardslide off the end.
